In fact it may seem like an unusual idea that a brand has a philosophy, but our school of thought is at the heart of what we do. Clothes don't make our customer. In fact, he makes them come alive, reflecting their individuality. The way our customer selects their clothing, when done with care and knowledge, draws a picture of character and taste. We hope that our collection will demonstrate our commitment to our customer's taste and intelligence and to the way men want to dress now. We don't build our collection from the "designer" sense.

Our collection is put together with a certain approach to living. You could call this joie de vivre or brio. Or verve, élan or even chutzpah. But what it means to us is having the personal touch, making the effort, paying attention to the details. It means cultivating connoisseurship, with intelligence and creativity. In seeking to please the “artists of living" for whom we build the collection, we are always inspired when we encounter materials of supreme quality. Our school of thought is, “Why not wear cashmere year-round" and we offer feather-weight cashmere sweaters in some very unexpected hues. They're novel but perfect, not gimmicky. The scott james label is a unique mission, very unlike the so called "designer brands".

We do our homework, and all of our designs are produced with the highest integrity. Of course we are not philosophers, we are simply designers, but we have put a great deal of thought into our work.
